2015 and we're back
(We just needed a 2 year break to extend our
family home !)
and June Lewis invite you to learn
woodworking skills at our home in beautiful rural
Shropshire, near to the renowned Ironbridge gorge. Experience
the thrill of creativity, it keeps us going!
a well-equipped workshop
will be your tutor
and provide one-to-one
tuition in woodworking skills and in particular, furniture making.
welcome people with all ranges of skills from the outright beginner
to the serious enthusiast. We would emphasise that previous experience is
not necessary- a course can be tailored to suit the ability of each individual.
courses are very flexible. We have no set dates and will
adapt to the needs of our customers. We welcome partners to do a woodworking course
f you are a
complete beginner, you could be shown how to make the famous
Shaker oval boxes or perhaps a Shaker-style
stool. If you are more ambitious you could make a
Shaker rocking chair, or if you wanted to work in the British
tradition, how about making a windsor chair or Welsh
stick-backed arm chair ? Working to these designs will include lathe-turning and the
use of rounder planes, (these can be likened to big pencil sharpeners and
help to make this kind of work more accessible). Several of the
components will be steam-bent which is always good fun, if a little
nerve-racking! Not all the timber
used will be British. American species and European hardwoods will also
be used, but tropical hardwoods are avoided
duration of the woodworking courses is based on your requirements. A
course can be organised for a single day (or even a half-day) - an
arrangement which would be particularly appropriate for local people.
Other courses can be based on two-days. The
programme in terms of skills developed, or what is made, is also very flexible. You can
choose ahead so that I'm prepared, or you can choose on the day
(though that might be more risky).
